Celebrate spring and have fun in this 9 session class creating artful and decorative clay works for the outdoors. We will look at different styles and expressions of garden pots to expand and inspire thought. Each student will create their own sculptural works inspired by imagination and play. With soft clay, several tools and project ideas, students will learn fundamental building techniques of coil, slab, pinching, hand molding and joining (with emphasis on structure) to create self-expressed sculptural forms. They will gain knowledge and understanding of the ceramic process and develop technical and application skills through simple conceptual drawing, visual communication and hands-on fabrication. Instructor assistance will include brief demonstration of tool usage, various decorative techniques and glaze application.
Individual expression, style, and ideas are encouraged to produce unique clay works. All students’ clay works will be displayed in the final session and be taken home with them. Parents are encouraged to attend last class exhibit.
