Building An Urban Village In Clay
Have fun sculpting with clay using your hands, several tools and much imagination. Students will create sculptural architectural compositions inspired by thought, memory and fantasy. They will further develop technical and application skills through hands-on fabrication exercises. Producing artistic individual clay works will help them gain confidence, knowledge and understanding of the ceramic and construction process.
Instructor assistance includes demonstration of various hand-building techniques (with emphasis on structure), tool usage, surface design and glaze application. We will look at examples of different styles of dwellings, store fronts, public facilities, and other types of buildings found in urban environments to expand and inspire thought and imagination.
Work will be exhibited in the last class and parents are encouraged to attend the event. Students will then take their creations home with them.10 Sessions; Grades 1-5
